The Ume Side Table takes its name from the Japanese plum blossom, capturing its spirit of simplicity, resilience, and quiet beauty. Inspired by principles of Japanese carpentry, this side table explores honest materiality and an all wood construction free from mechanical fasteners. Rather than reproducing traditional joinery literally, Ume reinterprets these values through modern CNC manufacturing techniques mixed with contemporary Canadian woodworking culture.
The table's sculptural form balances soft organic curves with precise geometry, resulting in an object that feels both restrained and expressive. These qualities pay homage to the blooming petal of it's name-sake, while also revealing it's own identity.Â
